About

The Silverton Block Watch Association is a nonprofit organization that helps neighbors work together to address crime and improve our community. The Association conducts monthly meetings to cover recent activities, learn from guest speakers, and help neighbors meet. Additionally, the Association holds events to raise police and community support funds. The association serves and supports the City of Silverton, Ohio.

History

Mayor Richard Hunter and Police Chief William Eggers founded the Silverton Block Watch Association in 1994. Police Officer Jim Replogle was assigned to serve as the liaison between the association and the City of Silverton, a role he continues in to this day.

Membership

Membership is informal!  Simply show up at a monthly meeting or express an interest to join.  SBWA offers a chance to meet neighbors and city personnel, receive crime prevention tips, city news, and advice from guest speakers, and give back to the community through annual fundraisers.  The monthly meetings are simply a great opportunity to socialize with your neighbors and get to know people from all over Silverton.

The Association holds fundraiser events throughout the year, including the spring and fall yard sales and the Art and Wine Festival each June, held at Meier’s Winery. To date these events have raised over $100,000 to support a number of causes in Silverton including:

  • Equipment for the police, fire, and service department
  • Park playground equipment
  • Summer Concerts in Park series
  • Explorer groups
  • Maintenance of the Silverton Train Station Museum
  • Funeral costs for murder victims
  • Beautification of the Silverton Business District
  • Other City organizations and their events.
